I’m currently in my final year of articleship, primarily engaged in Direct Tax assignments – a lot of return filing, assessment support, and advisory for corporate clients. I’m preparing for my CA Final exams under the new scheme, and I’m finding it incredibly challenging to manage the preparation for core papers like Financial Reporting and Strategic Cost Management, alongside my articleship demands. My specific dilemma is around the elective paper. Given my strong practical exposure in Direct Tax during articleship, I initially thought of opting for the ‘International Taxation’ elective. However, I’m also very drawn to ‘Global Financial Reporting Standards’ due to its perceived future scope and my interest in high-level accounting principles.
My question to those who’ve navigated similar waters: How did you effectively allocate time and energy between a demanding articleship (especially if it was in a specialized area like tax) and preparing for an elective paper that might not directly align with your daily work, like GFRS? Is it more pragmatic to leverage my DT articleship experience and stick with the International Taxation elective, even if my interest lies elsewhere, just to ease the preparation burden? I’m worried about stretching myself too thin, compromising either my articleship performance or my overall CA Final success.
